The Pigroot is an inland route in the Otago region of New Zealand’s South Island, linking the North Otago coast near Palmerston with Ranfurly in Central Otago. The road passes through the Kakanui Mountains and across the Maniototo Plain. In the 1800s, it existed as a rough and winding track, characterised by hilly terrain and steep, challenging climbs.
