Otago Motor Association Opening Run Assembling in Dunedin, 1908
This photograph shows participants assembling in Dunedin for the Otago Motor Association’s opening run of the motoring season in 1908. A line of early motor cars, motorcycles, and bicycles is gathered on the city street before setting off for “Naumai,” the country residence of J. F. M. Fraser near Lake Waihola, approximately 55 kilometres south of Dunedin. Around 100 people took part in the event, with afternoon tea provided at the destination. The combined value of the cars was estimated at around £10,000, highlighting both the novelty and prestige of motoring in Otago at the time.
