Roxburgh was at the centre of Central Otago’s growing fruit industry, and combining road transport with rail allowed produce to be moved more efficiently from orchard to port and city markets.

The image captures everyday working life in the fruit-growing districts, where timing, handling, and transport were critical to getting fresh produce out of Central Otago.
