Diamond T Intercity Bus for Hutley’s Motors, Awanui, Northland, NZ c.1940

A Diamond T intercity bus built by Crawley Ridley & Co Ltd at their Taranaki Street works in Wellington, circa 1940. Constructed for Hutley’s Motors of Awanui, Northland, the vehicle is clearly signwritten for the long-distance Auckland–Whangārei–Kaitaia route. This image provides a rare, clear record of purpose-built provincial intercity transport in the early 1940's combining American chassis engineering with New Zealand coachbuilding expertise.
